I became a Police Officer to help, protect, and assist people in need, especially our youth, who are our future. I enjoy working in the Alexandria Police Department because the department offers equal and fair opportunities for all officers.  The variety of specialized units also allows officers to explore different jobs within the department. We are a big family:  we care for each other on and off duty.  If you are looking for a comfortable and steady place to work, Alexandria Police Department will provide that for you!

I joined the Alexandria Police Department to give back to the community where I grew up. Alexandria has so much diversity which is part of the reason I wanted to work here. One of the great things about this department is the size. It’s not too big, so it gives you the opportunity to get to know your fellow officers.

I have always wanted to be in public service, so I joined APD to serve the community in which I live. Being a police officer has put me in a position to give back to my community as well as have a positive impact on people’s lives. There is no better feeling than someone coming up to you and saying, “Thank you.” You helped me turn my life around years ago.”

I really enjoy being a part of the K9 Unit.  It's truly amazing to watch these animals learn and progress through training.  To see their abilities firsthand is such an incredible experience and to have the opportunity to work with these K9’s every day is remarkable.  I also enjoy being able to interact with the community and provide demonstrations for the public.

I have been working in the Alexandria police department for 6 years. Alexandria has a very diverse community and there are no regular working days. I love helping people. I also like police work for its dynamic nature; no two situations are exactly the same. We are trained to adapt to different circumstances and be  able to adjust to many different situations while maintaining a clear mind.My family is very proud of me and supports me in everything. I am happy when my kids tell me that they want to be like me when they grow up and also help people.

I became a police officer because I wanted to make a difference in the community. I chose to work for the Alexandria Police because of the department’s mission to make community policing a priority.

Before becoming a police officer, I was an elementary school teacher. Both positions have provided me with an opportunity to be a role model to children. This job has also allowed me the chance to make a difference in the community.

I applied because representation matters. I think more people should apply and be the positive change they would like to see.

I became a police officer because I always wanted to protect and serve my community. I wanted to make sure my community is secure and safe, while having a meaningful impact on society. I enjoy working at the Alexandria Police Department because I can work different types of calls of service alongside many specialized units. I am also able to attend numerous training courses that I find interesting.

The Alexandria Police Department is the perfect size agency for those who are interested in law enforcement. The department is small enough where you can partner closely with your community and coworkers but large enough where you can enjoy several different opportunities and assignments.

I love working here because of the people I work with, the teamwork, and the opportunities I have been given to keep growing as an officer; it has created a real sense of comradery among us. We are truly a family. Everyone works together well to help each other find their full potential.

I came to Alexandria from southwestern Pennsylvania in 2005.  I was drawn to Alexandria as they were one of the only organizations that I applied to that paid you while you attended the police academy and provided me with everything needed to start my career in law enforcement.  Hands down, the best part of working for the City of Alexandria is the people that you can work with and the opportunities that APD provides. In the 18 years that I have worked with APD, I have been a Patrol Officer, Vice/Narcotics Detective, Internal Affairs Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant.  Working for the City has afforded me the opportunity live and raise a family in one of the most diverse and connected regions in the United States.
